what model tire did you take off? My VFR seems to flatten center of the rear long before the tread wears out, even with diligent tire pressure checks.

I really dig the PR2's, and I think they are a great match for the VFR800 chassis. They have all of the mechanical grip I can make use of on the street. Of the four different tires I have run on the VFR (Dunlop D204K, Michelin Pilot Sport (two sets), Conti Road Attack, and the Michelin Pilot Road 2), they are the best by a long shot in terms of handling and treadlife.

The PR2's are the most sport oriented of the ‘Pilot Road’ tire family and their popularity is evidenced by Michelin continuing to offer them (my new tires had Mfg Dates in Q3 of 2017).

The PR3 introduced the X-sipes for all weather traction - I ride for pleasure - not to get wet.

The PR4 introduced harder compounds to increase tread life even further beyond the PR3 and PR2. There is even a GT version for crying out loud.

The R5 (Michelin dropped the “Pilot” moniker in this generation) is even more touring oriented than the PR4.

I’ll stick with the PR2's...

I took off a worn set of Michelin Pilot Road 2's and I spooned on a new set of the same... 8^)

I have run four different tires on the VFR (Dunlop D204K, Michelin Pilot Sport (two sets), Conti Road Attack, and the Michelin Pilot Road 2), and really love these Pilot Road 2 tires from Michelin.

What tires are you running ? If you haven’t made the jump to multi compound tires, you should seriously consider it... Michelin has a better execution on that technology than Conti, Dunlop, or Bridgestone, IMHO, but almost every brand offers a multi-compound tire construction now.

They put a harder rubber compound on the center of the tires to increase tire-life and a softer compound on the shoulder to increase cornering grip.

The flat spot in the center of your rear tire is also influenced by the type of riding you do and on what kinds of roads. I have many sweeping twisty roads in my area and ride for fun on the weekends or an occasional ride to work, but you might have a more grid-like road network on which you commute day to day.
